A truck driver with ties to Louisville has admitted to playing a role in a human trafficking ring that killed at least 10 people in Texas.

James Bradley Jr., 61, pled guilty in federal court to conspiracy and one count of transporting immigrants resulting in death.

The charges against Bradley could have carried the death penalty because his crimes resulted in people dying while in transit. But U.S. Attorney Richard L. Dubin Jr. announced last month that the government would not seek the death penalty, according to multiple media reports.

Bradley was arrested in July after police found a tractor-trailer near a Walmart in San Antonio and discovered 39 undocumented immigrants. Eight of the immigrants were already dead and two other would later die at a San Antonio hospital.

The immigrants who survived told authorities that the trailer had contained as many as 200 people at one point during its journey from Mexico.
