It is late November, Thanksgiving has had its glory, so can we officially move on to Christmas now?!! I have taken it upon myself to make sure that you have the perfect holiday season, so here are 26 activities (1 per day until December 25th) to keep you and your family occupied with all things festive! Do the list in order or switch it up for a more creative twist. Whatever you decide, just have fun!
- Bake Christmas Cookies:
Start your season with some delicious sweets. I love the Pillsbury Christmas Sugar Cookies. Yum! - Have a Christmas Movie Marathon:
The Grinch, Elf, A Christmas Story, Prancer, The Santa Claus- there are so many options! - Pick out a Christmas Tree:
Some people have had their trees up for a few weeks now, but if you decided to wait until after Thanksgiving, take this day to go get your tree and start trimming. - Make homemade Christmas candy:
There is Christmas candy that you can buy from the story but then there is that good and pure sugar Christmas candy that your grandma makes that melts in your mouth. Make it a family event and pass on the tradition to make homemade candy. I’ll take some peanut butter fudge, please! - Go sledding:
Granted, this event relies on the weather, but if there is snow, go for it! - Visit with Family you haven’t seen in a while:
Don’t wait until Christmas Day to see your extended family, go out and start visiting now. It’s the season of love and laughter, don’t put it off! Start the fun now! - Make a pie from scratch:
There is nothing better than the apple cinnamon smell that Christmas brings. Bring that straight to your kitchen with a homemade apple pie- here is the perfect recipe. - Host a Christmas party:
Whether you want to throw an elegant party or an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party, invite your friends over and just enjoy some time together. - Volunteer at a Food Pantry:
Always strive to give back to your community, but especially in the busy Christmas season when there is a great need for volunteers. - Shop for a Christmas Angel:
Help a child that deserves to have an amazing Christmas by shopping for a Christmas Angel or donating gifts to Toys for Tots. - Build a snowman:
If it still hasn’t snowed, stack ice cream into three scoops and decorate it! Gum drops for buttons, a sprinkle scarf, and a cone for the hat. - Go Christmas Caroling:
Grab all your family and friends and bring this tradition back into play. So what if you can’t sing, get out and show your Christmas spirit! I mean you do remember the most important section of the The Code of Elves, don’t you? “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear”. - Throw a birthday party for Special Kayla because December 11th is her birthday!:
Hey, it’s worth a shot, right? I’ll take a chocolate birthday cake with lots of chocolate icing! - Play a gift swap game:
Get everyone to buy little fun gifts (no more than $10) and swap and steal! If someone has those headphones you’ve been wanting, take them, but you better protect them before they get swiped! - Make homemade Christmas tree ornaments:
In first grade, I made a Christmas ornament that my mom still hangs on our tree to this day. It is literally a pine cone covered in glitter, but it is so special to our family because it couldn’t be bought in any store. Make a family tradition of everyone making one ornament each to put on the tree, just image how special your tree will be in 10 years. - Drive around your community and admire your neighbors’ Christmas decorations:
This is a family tradition of my own too. About a week before Christmas, we take a drive around to see all the pretty Christmas lights on the houses in our community. - Run a Christmas themed race:
Rather than just lounging through the Christmas season, get up off the couch and train for that upcoming marathon. What an accomplishment to have under your belt as you end the year. - Participate in a Live Nativity Scene:
Jesus is the reason for the season, so help tell the original Christmas Story by joining a live Nativity Scene with your local church or community center. - Attend a live performance of A Christmas Carol at your local performing arts theater:
It isn’t truly Christmas if you aren’t visited by three ghosts. - Visit an assisted living home and deliver goodies to the residents:
Don’t forget some of the grandest Christmas angels this year. Drop by and deliver goodies and snacks or just simply stop by for a visit. Showing you care is the best gift of all. - Have a snowball fight:
There will be snow! I am confident! - Go ice skating at a local rink:
There are many indoor ice skating rinks that you can spend some quality time with friends and family! Who doesn’t love losing your balance every 10 seconds? - Go see Santa:
How else will he know what you want for Christmas if you don’t go tell him? - Have a Christmas themed pajama party:
I love getting new pajamas for Christmas, actually, they go on my Christmas list every year. Get together with your friends and have a pajama party with movies, snacks, and a stocked hot chocolate bar! - Read Twas the Night Before Christmas:
Christmas is almost here! Start calling the reindeer- On Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen! - It’s Christmas Eve:
Hang your stockings and go to bed early, tomorrow is the big day!
Here you go, a holly jolly list of activities to ensure you get all the tidings and joy out of this Christmas Season.
Until next time.
