Saturday night at approximately 8:00, the Cave City Police Department received a complaint about a Chevrolet truck traveling in a reckless manner on Dixie Highway.

Upon arriving in the area, authorities observed the vehicle pulling out of the Star Motel parking lot, and drive across the center line on Louisville Road, according to police. Upon stopping the truck, police made contact with the driver, Calvin Dennis, of Leitchfield. Officers noticed Dennis had “extremely slurred speech, a slumped appearance and slow deliberate movements,” police said.

Dennis was arrested and charged with DUI, is second such offense, and careless driving. He was lodged in the Barren County Detention Center but has since been released.

In August 2016, Dennis was previously arrested on a DUI charge in Edmonson County after dragging his dog behind his truck for 15 to 20 miles, while allegedly under the influence of methamphetamine. Media reports at the time said a witness told police they followed Dennis, dragging a dog, from Hwy 68/80 through Smiths Grove and on to Hwy 101, until he reached Hwy 31-W. From there, Dennis drove to Hwy 259 and into Edmonson County.

Dennis was stopped by law enforcement at the Chalybeate Fire Department and arrested.
