A Cave City woman was arrested Wednesday night after assaulting police during a welfare check

Cave City police were dispatched to 200 Julian Lane in reference to a welfare check due to possible drug activity with two small children in the residence. Upon arrival, police detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the apartment.

Police said after making contact with the resident, 25 year-old Shelby Johnson, she became violent, kicking and striking two of the officers.

She was arrested and charged with two counts of assault of a police officer, two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, resisting arrest, and two counts of menacing.

Johnson was lodged into the Barren County Detention Center.
