Grayson County’s Lady Cougars put three players into double figures last Friday evening in the Cougar Den as they ran roughshod over the visiting Lady Bears from Butler County 61-30.

Senior Hannah Saltsman led all scorers in the game with 17 points, while sophomore Bailey Snyder scored 14 points and sophomore Kenzie Renfrow added 11. Renfrow had an all-around fine game, adding four rebounds and three steals. Renfrow just missed having a double-double night as she led the Lady Cougars with nine assists.

The lead changed hands on three straight possessions in the first period. Renfrow hit a lay-in at the 5:05 mark to put the Lady Cougars in front to stay, 6-5 at the 5:05 mark. Renfrow’s basket was the start of  a 14-0 run that saw the Lady Cougars holding a 13-point edge, 18-5 at the end of the first quarter.

A Saltsman lay-in at the 3:32 mark of the second period completed a 22-4 Grayson County run that saw them holding their largest lead of the first half, 17 points at 26-9. They led by 15 points, 28-13 at the half.

An old-fashioned three-point play by Butler County’s Maddy Murphy at the 7:15 mark of the third quarter cut the Grayson County lead to 13 points. 29-16, but that would be as close as the visitors would get the rest of the night.  The Lady Cougars scored the next 17 straight points to lead by 30-points, 46-16 with 1:20 left in the period, and the final outcome was assured.

Murphy led the Lady Bears with 15 points. In addition to her 11 points, Snyder added four rebounds.

Laura Vincent scored eight points and pulled down six rebounds, all in the first period, and those were the same numbers she finished with. Kaylee Masden scored five points, Ella Robinson added four and Rachel Snyder had two to complete the Lady Cougar scoring.
