With Grayson County holding a slim two-point lead early in the third quarter, the visiting Meade County Green Wave closed out the period with 14 unanswered points, then went on to record a 52-40 win Tuesday night in the Cougar Den.

Before the start of the game, senior Bailey Logsdon was honored after surpassing the 1,000-point mark during his Cougar career. Head coach Travis Johnston, another member of that exclusive club, presented Logsdon with a game ball commemorating the achievement.

The game had been a back-and-forth affair until that big run. There were three lead changes in the first quarter and the score was tied three times in the second. The Waves held a one-point lead, 9-8 at the end of the first quarter, then they led by three, 22-19 at the half.

Five straight Cougar points in the early going of the third period saw the Cougars take a two-point lead, 26-24 following two Josh Embry free throws at the 5:48 mark. That’s when things began to go sideways for the Cougars.

A three-pointer by the Waves’ Aidan Matthews with 3:12 remaining capped seven straight Meade points and prompted Johnston to call a timeout to try to get things back on track.

Back on the floor, Logsdon was hit with his fourth foul of the night on a made six-foot jumper by Noah Schwartz. Schwartz completed the three-point play to make it 33-26 with 1:40 left in the period.

Johnston had complained bitterly about the call on Logsdon, and when he continued to plead his case after the free throw, the official hit him with a technical foul. Chris Armistead converted both those free throws to make it 35-26 with 1:34 left.

Schwartz went back to the line for two shots at 1:15. He made the first, but missed the second. However Chezney Weick rebounded the miss and put it back at the 1:12 mark, and suddenly the Waves had scored 14 straight to lead by 12 points, 38-26 and that was the score as the teams went headed into the final period of play.

Grayson County was not quite done yet, though, as they opened the fourth quarter with eight unanswered points. An old-fashioned three-point play by Josh Embry at the 4:25 mark cut the lead to just four points, 38-34, but they would get no closer.

The Waves put three players into double figures. Matthews and Weick both scored 13 points, while Armistead added 10.

Sophomore Nolan Shartzer led the Cougars with 19 points. Logsdon and Embry both finished with eight points. Junior Logan Majors scored four points and led the team on the glass with seven rebounds. Wyatt Schultz closed out the Cougar scoring with one point.
