After the Cougars had stayed with the powerful Daviess County Panthers to trail by just a single point at the half, the Panthers methodically pulled away in the second half on their way to a 58-39 win in the Cougar Den on Tuesday.

Grayson County started out well, taking a 9-5 lead into the second quarter, then grabbing an eight-point lead, 15-7 at the 5:21 mark of the second period. But the Panthers began getting their act together at that point and mounted a comeback.

A Jay Owen three-pointer with 2:17 left in the first half capped a 10-0 Panther run that saw them take their first lead of the night, 17-15. The lead then changed hands four more times before the half ended with the Panthers on top by a point, 21-20.

Daviess County then opened the third period with a 9-2 run that pushed the lead to eight points, 30-22, and the Panthers still led by eight, 39-31 as the fourth quarter got under way. When the Panthers scored the first eight points of the final period, the lead ballooned to 16 points and the outcome had been determined. Grayson County was never closer than 12 points the rest of the way.

Owen led all scorers in the game with 20 points, while his teammate, Blake Boswell had 19.

Nolan Shartzer led the Cougars with 12 points. Josh Embry was hot in the early going and finished with 11 points.

Bailey Logsdon and Logan Majors both finished with four points, while Wyatt Schultz and Miles Hornbeck had three apiece. Caleb Ray closed out the Cougar scoring with two points.
