Saturday morning at approximately 1:45, the Leitchfield Police Department responded to the 600 block of West Chestnut Street after Central Dispatch received a third-party call reporting a domestic dispute taking place at a mobile home.

Upon Officer Keith Harrell arriving at the scene, he was met outside the home by one of the occupants, 31-year-old Robert G. Warf, with Officer Harrell telling Warf he needed to check the condition of the female inside the residence.

Officer Harrell followed Warf into the home and into a bedroom, and observed bruising on the female victim, according to police. Officer Harrell then separated the victim and Warf, taking the victim outside the mobile home and questioning her on the domestic disturbance.

At about this time, Officer Joe Overton arrived on scene, with the two officers then discussing the victim’s comments.

The officers went back into the residence and attempted to place Warf into custody, when he became combative and said, “Honey, get my sword,” according to Officer Harrell, and threatened to kill both officers. Officers Harrell and Overton were able to force Warf onto a bed and handcuff the suspect as he continued to battle.

Soon after, with the 6-foot-2, 200 pound Warf continuing to fight (even as he was handcuffed), he kicked Officer Overton three times in the chest. Officer Overton then drew his taser, with Warf kicking the stun gun out of his hand. The taser deployed, though, and struck Warf in the midsection. The taser, after being kicked by Warf, landed on his chest. The taser wires came into contact with both officers, causing Officer Harrell to lose his grip on Warf.

Warf, who was arrested on an assault charge in September 2017, was somehow able grab the taser, and from behind his back, pointed it at Officer Harrell. Officer Harrell responded by drawing his firearm and instructing Warf to drop the taser, which he did.

Officers then escorted a still-struggling Warf outside the residence when he attempted to flee down an embankment, but police were able to subdue Warf long enough to place him in a squad car.

He was transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center for evaluation and then lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center where he’s been charged with assaulting a police officer, fourth-degree assault (domestic violence), third-degree terroristic threatening, resisting arrest, and disarming a police officer.

During the course of the struggle, Officer Harrell requested a Grayson County Sheriff’s Office unit, with Deputy Kelsey Overton responding and assisting at the scene.
