For the fourth time in the past five years, Lady Cougar tennis standout Grace Gorby has captured the 3rd Region Singles Championship and will head to Lexington for the Kentucky State Tennis Championships.

Gorby won the title for the first time as an eighth grader, then repeated her freshman year. In 2016, she was defeated in the final by Hancock County’s Ally Delaney, but returned last year to recapture the title. Gorby also went undefeated in her junior and senior seasons and has already signed with Georgetown University for next year.

In addition, Gorby was named to receive the Luke Woodward Sportsmanship Award, a coveted award that is given each year.

The girls squad finished as Regional Runners-up to champion Owensboro Catholic. According to head coach Sherry Vincent, the team won its last five straight matches to build momentum heading into the regionals.

Also headed to state along with Gorby are the girls doubles team of Kourtnee Hayes and Kandler Lindsey, and boys singles player, Maxton Cummings.
