Monday morning while in Leitchfield to speak to the Grayson County Rotary Club, Sen. Rand Paul said a man threatened to kill him and his family.

Sen. Paul said his family was targeted by a suspect threatening to attack the family with an ax, saying the suspect threatened to kill him and “chop up” his family.

Paul added that Capitol Police issued an arrest warrant for the suspect.

The GOP lawmaker says it’s “just horrendous” that political leaders have to “deal with things like this.”

Last week, Sen. Paul filed a lawsuit against Rene Boucher, the retired Bowling Green doctor who attacked Sen. Paul last year as he was doing yard work. Boucher answered with a counter suit a few days later. The two men, who have been neighbors for 17 years, have had disagreements about Sen. Paul allegedly piling up yard debris near, and in some cases, on Boucher’s property.

Boucher pled guilty in March to assaulting a member of Congress, and was sentenced earlier this month to 30 days in jail.
