Monday night at approximately 11:35, the Leitchfield Police Department executed a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling between 18 and 20 miles per hour on Mill Street.

LDP Officer Keith Harrell spotted the slow-moving Ford Taurus, being driven by 57-year-old Anthony Reed, of Sonora, as Reed traveled east in the 1400 block of Mill Street, a 35 mph zone. As Officer Harrell pulled in behind the Ford, Reed responded by turning on his caution lights.

The Ford pulled into the parking lot of Walmart, with Reed and his passenger quickly exiting the Taurus, raising Officer Harrell’s suspicions as to what was inside the vehicle. A consent to search was granted but nothing illegal was located inside the car.

Reed, though, was clearly under the influence of some type of substance and was given a field sobriety test, which he failed. He was arrested and charged with his fourth DUI (prescription medication), elevating the charge to a felony.

He was also charged with driving on a DUI suspended license and failure to maintain insurance, and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center. His passenger was released.

LPD Officer Tim Moutardier and GCSO Deputy DJ Newton assisted at the scene.
