A 12-year-old girl is in custody after trying to kill her four-year-old stepbrother.

Police said the girl put Mr. Clean into her stepbrother’s water and forced him to drink it. The children live in Oak Grove, a small community in Christian County. The motive for the girl sickening her stepbrother was because she thought her mother loved the boy more, according to multiple media reports.

The girl was charged with attempted murder on Wednesday and taken to Cumberland Hall, a psychiatric hospital in Hopkinsville, for evaluation.

The mother discovered the girl was trying to kill her stepbrother after looking through the girl’s Skype messages and saw that she told someone she was going to poison her stepbrother with a cleaning product. The boy had been recently sick, so the mother asked her about it, with the girl admitting to putting the cleaner in the boy’s water.
