The city of Somerset has released a video showing the alleged collision between Mayor Eddie Girdler and a female juvenile bicyclist on the evening of August 12.

Girdler, who was cited for leaving the scene of an accident, claimed from the outset that he “wasn’t aware of any accident,” something the video appears to support.

The video (seen here courtesy of WKYT.com) shows the 15-year-old girl crossing a downtown Somerset street directly in front of Girdler, who was driving a white Chevrolet Tahoe. Girdler slammed on his brakes to avoid running over the juvenile.

It appears in the video that the girl momentarily lost her balance as Girdler comes to an abrupt stop, as she briefly placed her right foot on the ground and continued riding through the intersection and down a side street.

The girl’s family claims she was taken to a local hospital and later airlifted to Lexington for treatment of a lacerated liver. The girl’s mother, in speaking with WKYT, said her daughter also had bruising on her hip and leg.

When asked by a reporter about the child’s alleged injuries, Girdler said the full story should eventually come out.
