UPDATE: KSP Special Response Team shoots and kills ‘armed and dangerous’ man in Richmond

Kentucky State Police has released details regarding a fatal involving the agency’s Special Response Team in Richmond on Monday afternoon.

Kentucky State Police spokesman Robert Purdy said the shooting occurred at Towne Place Suites by Marriott at about 3:50 yesterday afternoon as police were looking to serve a man, considered armed and dangerous, with several warrants, including for bail jumping, escape and absconding parole supervision. State police encountered the man, not yet unidentified, as he drove into the parking lot of the hotel.

During the encounter, shots were fired with the suspect suffering at least one gunshot wound. The suspect then attempted to drive from the scene but struck a utility pole. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not said if the man shot at troopers, but Purdy said no troopers were injured in the incident.
