A Millwood teenager has been arrested after cutting his grandmother’s throat and stabbing her multiple times.
Friday morning at approximately 3:40, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and Leitchfield Police Department responded to the 200 block of Pleasant View Road in Millwood on the report of a female suffering a vicious assault by her grandson.
According to the arrest warrant, upon Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Fred Norder arriving on scene, he found 18-year-old Douglas Barton and his grandmother had been in an argument on the driveway of the home when Barton “came up behind his grandmother and pulled her head backward and reached around, slashing her throat with a knife, causing a deep wound to her throat.”
Following the victim falling to the ground after having her throat cut, Barton, who is listed as 6-foot-7 and 300 pounds by the Grayson County Detention Center, then stabbed his grandmother “multiple times in the back,” according to the warrant.
Barton then called 9-1-1 to report “an injured person” lying in the driveway of the residence on Pleasant View Road.
The victim was transported by EMS to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center before being taken to University of Louisville Hospital where she remains in stable but critical condition.
Sheriff Norman Chaffins said the victim has “other surgeries ahead of her,” as Chaffins said Barton may have stabbed the victim in the trachea. She also suffered a collapsed lung and lost a large amount of blood, according to Chaffins.
Barton, during an interrogation by Sgt. Norder, admitted to stabbing his grandmother and cutting her throat. He was arrested and charged with attempted murder and tampering with physical evidence. He is lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
