At Thursday night’s Grayson County School Board meeting held at Caneyville Elementary School, the district received a clean bill of financial health from Stiles Carter & Associates after the accounting firm completed a yearly audit.

Caneyville Principal George Meredith then recognized over three dozen students (not all were present) for scoring Proficient on their KPREP statewide tests with accomplishment certificates.

The board approved Grayson County High School collecting and maintaining a scholarship in memory for long-time math teacher Phyllis Minton. Minton, 63, was tragically killed on September 28 after her vehicle was struck by a train. Grayson County Principal Josh Baldwin said at the time of Minton’s death, “She was the ultimate professional educator. We have lost a true pillar of our community.”

The School Board agreed to allow the creation of four positions within the school district:

  • A one-on-one Special Needs Aide at Lawler Elementary School
  • A Special Education Teacher at Clarkson Elementary School
  • Two full-time substitute cook/bakers, to work six hours per day. These positions are being created due to two employees taking medical leaves for the remainder of the school year.
