The mother of a toddler was found passed-out in a vehicle with her baby, in 30-degree temperatures and no heat on.
Laurel County Sheriff John Root said the woman, 40-year-old Melisha Harris, of Manchester, was slumped over the steering wheel of her car with the engine off but the vehicle in drive. Her toddler, according to the sheriff, was freezing, as the baby was shaking, cold to the touch, and the baby’s feet, arms and legs were blue.
The child was transported to the St. Joseph-London hospital.
Root said when deputies tried to remove Harris from the vehicle, she resisted being taken into custody.
She was charged with DUI, first-degree criminal abuse, menacing, and resisting arrest and lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond.
