Sophomore Rachel Snyder and junior Laura Vincent both had double-double nights Tuesday evening in the Cougar Den as the Lady Cougar varsity basketball team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 53-47 victory over the visiting Meade County Lady Waves.

Snyder scored 11 points and pulled down 17 rebounds, while Vincent scored 10 points and grabbed 12 boards for the Lady Cougars, who assumed a lead midway through the second period and never gave it back. Grayson County led by as many as 16 points in the fourth quarter before a Lady Wave run closed the final margin of victory to six points.

The Lady Cougars led by two, 9-7 after the first period of play. The lead then changed hands four times near the beginning of the second period. A 10-footer from sophomore Ella Robinson at the 3:32 mark put the Lady Cougars in front 15-14 and they never trailed again. Bailey Snyder’s buzzer-beating three-pointer at the end of the half gave the Lady Cougars a six-point advantage, 22-16 at the break.

A 9-0 Grayson County run in the third quarter increased the lead to 14 points, 35-21 with 1:43 left in the period. The Lady Cougars still led by 13 points, 39-26 heading into the final period of play.

When Vincent hit 1-of-2 at the line at the 4:47 mark, the Lady Cougars held their largest lead of the game, 16 points at 46-30, but that’s when the Lady Waves began cutting into the lead. Kendall Wingler, who led all scorers with 19 points, hit a three-pointer with 10.9 second left that brought her team to within five points, 52-47, but they ran out of time.

Kenzie Renfrow led the Lady Cougars in scoring with 17 points before fouling out of the game with 2:44 left to play. She also had six rebounds and three assists in the game. Robinson finished with eight points and five rebounds. Bailey Snyder finished with five points and four rebounds, while Kaylee Masden had two points to close out the scoring.
