Thursday afternoon at approximately 3:20, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Falls of Rough Fire Department and EMS responded to the intersection of Falls of Rough Road and Junction Road on the report of a single-vehicle accident.

Upon sheriff’s office Sgt. Fred Norder arriving on the scene, he found that a Chevrolet truck hauling shell corn overturned as it attempted to turn from Junction Road onto Falls of Rough Road.

Norder said the driver, 32-year-old Kenneth Dowell, of Hardinsburg, missed a gear while downshifting as he traveled down a steep hill on Junction Road (as he approached the intersection with Falls of Rough Road), and had to rely on his brakes to slow the truck. Because of the weight of the truck and its cargo, though, the brakes failed.

Dowell turned the truck in an attempt to miss hitting the guardrail head-on, but the vehicle flipped onto its side and slid through the intersection and into the guardrail, flipping the truck onto its top.

EMS treated Dowell at the scene. He was then transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center by private means.
