Trailing by a single point with 7.5 seconds left, the Lady Cougars had two shots at the basket in the closing moments, but neither would fall as the Edmonson County LadyCats escaped the Cougar Den last Friday night with a 32-31 victory.

Grayson County trailed by six points, 27-21 at the 7:57 mark of the fourth quarter, but responded with seven straight points to take their first lead of the night, 28-27 at the 5:00 mark.

Edmonson’s Katie Lindsey hit two free throws at 4:41 to put the LadyCats back on top, but Kenzie Renfrow scored at 3:15 to give the Lady Cougars a one-point advantage, 30-29.

Chanley Logsdon then hit a three-point basket to give the LadyCats a two-point edge, 32-30 with 1:08 remaining to be played.

Kaylee Masden went to the line in the one-and-one with 45.8 seconds left with the chance to tie the game. She hit the first, but missed the second to make it 32-31.

Grayson County then fouled Lauren Balance and she went to the line for a one-and-one opportunity with 28.6 seconds left, but missed the first shot.

Edmonson County then fouled Rachael Snyder on a shot and she went to the line with 15 seconds left for two shots that could have put the Lady Cougars on top, but she missed both shots.

The Lady Cougars fouled Madison Harrison with 8.9 seconds left, but she missed the front end of the one-and-one and Laura Vincent rebounded the miss and the Lady Cougars called a timeout with 7.5 seconds showing on the clock.

Out of the timeout, Snyder went the length of the court for a driving lay-up attempt that bounced off the rim. Ella Robinson rebounded the miss and put up an off-balance shot that skipped over the rim as the horn sounded giving the LadyCats the win.

This was a low-scoring affair from the start. The LadyCats led by four, 10-6 at the end of the first period, and by two, 16-14 at the half. The LadyCats led by as many as six points in the third quarter, but led by five, 26-21 heading into the final period of play.

Renfrow led the Lady Cougars in scoring with 13 points before she fouled out with 1:19 left to play. Laura Vincent scored nine points and led the team on the glass with eight rebounds. Snyder finished with six points and seven boards.

Robinson finished with two points while Masden had one to complete the scoring.
