A Leitchfield man has been arrested following a domestic disturbance where the suspect held a handgun to the head of his girlfriend’s grandmother.

At approximately 5:00 Tuesday morning, Grayson County Deputy Brandon Rafferty, Leitchfield Police Department Officers Keith Harrell and Tim Moutardier, and Kentucky State Police Trooper Kyle Lashley responded to the 8900 block of Millerstown Road on the report of a domestic disturbance where the suspect, 20-year-old Trenton Melvin, was brandishing a handgun and making threats.

According to Harrell, Melvin told the four occupants of the home, including a juvenile, if police arrived at the residence he would shoot the officers.

Soon after authorities arrived on scene, the juvenile exited the residence, Harrell said. Harrell then obtained the phone number of a woman in the home and placed a call. Melvin’s girlfriend’s grandmother answered the phone, with Harrell asking her to put the phone on speaker so he could talk with Melvin. It was during this time that Melvin held the handgun to the grandmother’s head.

Harrell then spoke with Melvin for approximately 10 minutes, and persuaded the suspect into coming out of the home with his hands clearly visible, police said. Upon Melvin exiting the residence, he was placed in handcuffs and transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center where he was given clearance to be jailed.

After being cleared, Melvin was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center where he’s been charged with four counts of unlawful imprisonment, four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, both felonies, and fourth-degree assault, a class A misdemeanor.

The dispute arose when Melvin’s girlfriend’s family refused to give him someone else’s prescription medication, Harrell said.
