Owensboro Catholic eliminates Cougars in first round of the Regionals, 58-34

The Cougars saw their season come to an end Monday night in Owensboro as the Owensboro Catholic Aces handed them a 58-34 loss in the opening round of the 3rd Region Tournament, being played at the Owensboro Sportscenter.

The Cougars took an early 7-4 lead following a 10-footer by Spencer Sharp at the 1:56 mark.

The Aces responded with a 7-0 run to grab an 11-7 lead. They led 11-9 at the end of the first period.

When Sharp buried a three to open the scoring in the second period, the Cougars led 12-11. That would be their last lead of the game. The Aces closed out the half on an 11-5  run to lead by five points, 22-17 at the half.

When the Aces opened the third quarter with a 9-2 run, they led by 12 points, 31-19 with 4:04 left in the period. They still led by 12 points, 38-26 heading into the final period of play. The Aces then outscored the Cougars 20-8 in the fourth quarter for the final 24-point margin.

John Parker led the Aces with 13 points, while Drew Hartz scored 11.

Nolan Shartzer led the Cougars with 13 points and he led them on the glass as well with seven rebounds. Sharp, playing in his last game as a Cougar, scored 10 points.

Q’Daryius McHenry scored seven points, while Wyatt Schultz and Matthew Loughran closed out the scoring with two apiece.
