The boyfriend of the woman shot and killed on Saturday night has been named by Kentucky State Police as a suspect in her death, as well as the death of the woman’s newborn baby.

On Saturday night, 29-year-old Geri D. Johnson, of Williamsburg, was shot and later died at Baptist Health Corbin hospital. Her unborn baby was delivered by hospital staff and then transferred to University of Kentucky Medical Center. The baby, Amelia Johnson, died Tuesday night result of a lack of oxygen and blood to the baby’s brain.

State police say 29-year-old Daniel Nantz, of Woodbine, is a suspect in the Johnsons’ deaths. He was arrested on Wednesday by ATF agents on unrelated federal charges associated with the distribution of large amounts of methamphetamine in what authorities say was a wide-ranging meth distribution conspiracy among several suspects.

Authorities said the findings of the homicide investigation will be presented to the Whitley County Grand Jury.

Nantz is being held in the Laurel County Detention Center.
