Grayson County Cooperative Extension Service and Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland (FAKH) ask area gardeners and farmers to “Raise A Row” this summer for others who may not have access to fresh, nutritious fruits and vegetables. By growing one or two extra rows, the additional fresh produce will allow individuals and families to supplement their meals. Often times, individuals and families on fixed incomes cannot access fresh produce because of high cost and availability.
The Grayson County Cooperative Extension Service will provide a packet of seeds, if needed, to help get the growing season started, and are available at their office at 123 Commerce Drive, Leitchfield. The office can also offer information on growing, harvesting and preparing the fruits and vegetables.

“This is a great easy-to-do project for area gardeners thanks to the support from the Grayson County Cooperative Extension Service,” stated Monica Ruehling, FAKH Marketing & Communications Coordinator. “Just a row or two of extra fresh fruits or vegetables donated back to the community will help many families put a more nutritious meal on the table.”

After the growing season, gardeners can bring the produce donations to the extension office. All donations will be picked up, sorted, and distributed to individuals and families in need in the community through FAKH and their partner agencies.
