Monday, in the 3rd Region Tournament at Hancock County, the Daviess County Lady Panthers eliminated the Lady Cougars 14-4 in five innings.

Greysee Whiteker was the winning pitcher for the Lady Panthers, giving up four runs, two of them earned, on six hits,

Lindsay O’Neal absorbed the loss for the Lady Cougars. She held Daviess in check for the first two innings, but then the flood gates opened. She gave up six hits in the five-run third inning, four more in the four-run fourth, then three more in the five-run fifth inning that ended the game by the run rule.

Maddie Duvall went 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in a run. Bailey Snyder did not have a hit, but drove in two runs with a pair of ground-outs. Rachael Snyder drove in the fourth run with a fifth inning single.

The Lady Cougars jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the top of the third inning. Gracie Franklin reached first base on an error and moved to second on a single to right by Kenzie Renfrow.

O’Neal’s sacrifice moved the runners to second and third before Duvall’s bad-hop single scored Franklin and moved Renfrow to third. Bailey Snyder then grounded out to short, with Renfrow crossing the plate on the play.

The lead did not last long as the Lady Panthers put together six straight hits, including Emma Young’s two-run home run, and scored five times to take a lead they would not give back.

Daviess County made it 9-2 with four more runs in the fourth inning. Millie Roberts led off the inning with a solo home run to straight-away centerfield, and Emily Stanley’s two-out double to center drove in two more.

The Lady Cougars rallied for a pair of runs in the top of the fifth.  Renfrow led off with a single before O’Neal lined out hard to left. Duvall singled into left and Renfrow was able to make it to third on the play, with Duvall taking second on the throw to third.

Bailey Snyder then hit a ball at third-baseman Cameron Hamilton that Hamilton booted. But the ball caromed to shortstop Abby Newman who was able to throw Snyder out, but Renfrow came in to score to make it 9-3. Rachael Snyder followed by lacing a single into right to plate Duvall to make it 9-4.

Finally, in the fifth, the Lady Panthers scored five times after two were out to end the game. The Lady Cougars aided the Lady Panthers by committing three error in the inning.
