A Glasgow man has been arrested after torturing a dog.

On Saturday, the Glasgow Police Department responded to the Barren River Animal Welfare Association after receiving a report of a neglected dog.

Police said the investigation revealed that that 64-year-old Donnie R. Johnson, of Glasgow, had tortured a dog by pouring acid on the animal in an effort to kill the dog. Police said the tortured dog had to be euthanized due to the severity of his injuries.

Additionally, animal control officers seized several chickens and a cat from Johnson’s residence on Hidden Lake Road.

Johnson was arrested and charged with torture of a dog/cat with serious physical injury or death and second-degree cruelty to animals.

He is lodged in the Barren County Detention Center on a $2,500 cash bond.
