Two men have been arrested after trying to break into a home in Falls of Rough.

On Thursday night at about 11:00, Grayson County Deputy DJ Newton, Leitchfield Police Department Sgt. Keith Harrell and Kentucky State Police responded to a burglary in progress in the 10000 block of Falls of Road after an elderly female reported that someone was trying to break into her residence.

The woman told Central Dispatch that someone was “beating on her doors and windows and shining lights inside” the home, according to the arrest citation.

Upon police arriving on the scene, the two suspects, 20-year-old Jacob Finley, of Caneyville, and 21-year-old Jacob Holderman, of Leitchfield, were still at the residence, along with one the suspects’ Toyota Scion, which had broken down. A 14-year-old girl was with the two men.

A short investigation revealed “there were hand prints on every window of the residence, and the screens were pushed up,” according to the citation. Furthermore, the citation states that an “ornamental rabbit figurine” had been used to try and open a door to the home, but without success.

An outbuilding on the property had “blood splatter on it, a busted glass window, (and) the front door had been ripped off,” according to authorities, as Holderman had a cut on his wrist. Additionally, there were items outside the building that the victim told police had been stored inside.

Finley and Holderman were arrested and charged with second-degree burglary (attempt), third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, alcohol intoxication, and unlawful transaction with a minor. Both suspects were lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center. The juvenile was released into the custody of her parents.
