Lady Cougar volleyball defeats Cloverport in straight sets

The Lady Cougar volleyball team traveled to Cloverport on Tuesday to take on the Frederick Fraize Lady Aces and came home with a quick, straight set victory, 2-0.

It took the Lady Cougars a little more than a half hour to dispatch the Lady Aces, 25-5, 25-11. They held the Lady Aces without a single point off their serve in the first set.

Leading 3-1, Grayson County’s Bailey Richardson served six straight points. Junior Ella Robinson had three kills in the run. Leading 11-3, junior Chloe Cox served five straight points, including two aces, to give the Lady Cougars a 13-point lead, 16-3.

At set point, 24-5, Robinson scored another kill to give the Lady Cougars the first-set win.

The Lady Aces took a 0-1 lead at the start of the second set, and tied the score three times before a Robinson ace gave the Lady Cougars a 5-4 lead, and they were never headed afterward. Robinson served four straight points to put the Lady Cougar up by four, 8-4.

Grayson County still led by four, 9-5, when Cox served five straight points, including two more aces, to give the Lady Cougars a nine-point advantage, 14-5.

Leading by 11, 22-11, Richardson served out for the win. Robinson had two dink kills to bring it to match-point, before Richardson served an ace to end the match.

Robinson led the team with eight kills, while Cox and senior Rylie Hayes had three apiece. Senior setter Alexis Hart led the team with 21 assists and Cox led the team in aces with four.
