The Louisville armored truck driver who stole nearly a million dollars has agreed to a plea deal.

Mark N. Espinosa, 29, stole approximately $932,000 from GardaWorld, the largest armored car carrier in the U.S., and disappeared from the Jefferson Mall parking lot, in south Louisville, on December 5, 2018. After taking the money, Espinosa obtained a ride from a Lyft driver to flee the scene.

He was captured by the FBI in Connecticut on January 30. He had $850,000 in cash in his possession, according to police.

He was federally indicted for theft from a common carrier, bank robbery, interstate transportation of stolen money, monetary transactions involving stolen money, and money laundering.

Espinosa entered a guilty plea Tuesday, one day before his trial was to begin. As part of the plea, federal prosecutors agreed to recommend he serve a 21 year prison sentence. He faced dozens of years in prison if convicted of the charges.

Formal sentencing is scheduled for December 11.
