Grayson Co. Sheriff's Office K-9 Marco's efforts leads to Caneyville drug bust

Two men have been arrested at the Caneyville Valero after Grayson County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Marco detected drugs in the bed of a truck.

Sunday night at approximately 8:45, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Fred Norder and Deputy DJ Newton arrested 36-year-old Joshua D. Garrett and 31-year-old David Maddox, both of Powderly.

As Norder and Newton were serving an EPO at what is commonly referred to as Dewey’s Trailer Court, the deputies observed a black Ford F150 truck pull into the driveway of a home at the trailer court. A male exited the vehicle and approached the home. Deputies then heard yelling, according to the arrest citations, with the man returning to his vehicle and leaving the area, traveling south on Hwy 79.

The deputies asked the female resident if she was okay, with her responding, “I don’t even know who those guys were,” the citation said.

Norder then left the trailer court and attempted to locate the truck, which also had a busted taillight. Norder caught up with the two suspects a short distance away, near the Valero service station, at 512 Morgantown Street (Hwy 79), and executed a traffic stop in the parking lot.

An investigation revealed that the driver, Garrett, had three warrants out of Muhlenberg County. According to the citation, during a search of the suspect, Norder located a glass pipe containing methamphetamine residue in one of Garrett’s pockets.

Norder’s K-9 partner Marco was deployed, with a broken pipe located on the driver’s side floorboard. The pipe also contained methamphetamine residue.

Garret admitted to police that he attempted to destroy the pipe.

Marco was then deployed around the outside of the vehicle. The bed of the truck contained mattresses and many other items, but Marco alerted to the area by taking a sitting position at the rear of the truck. A search of the bed of the truck revealed an eyeglasses case containing three bags of what appeared to be methamphetamine, Suboxone and multiple Xanax pills, the citation said.

Both suspects were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Garrett was also charged with tampering with physical evidence, and served with warrants for theft by unlawful taking, possession of a controlled substance, DUI and having a prescription controlled substance not in its proper container along with several non-moving violations.

Both men were lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
