After a nearly two-week layoff, the Lady Cougar volleyball team returned to action Tuesday night and took a straight-set win, 3-0 (25-15, 25-5, 25-15), from visiting Frederick Fraize, of Cloverport.

The first set was tied three times in the early going, the last time coming at 4-4. The Lady Cougars won the next rally point, giving the serve to junior Ella Robinson, who served six straight points, including an ace, to give the Lady Cougars a seven-point advantage, 11-4.

Leading by five, 13-8, senior Maddie Duvall served four straight points, including a pair of aces, to increase the lead to nine points, 17-8.

The Lady Cougars had a set-point at 24-14, but senior Reagan Henderson came up with a kill to extend the set, but on the next serve, the Lady Aces were whistled for being in the net, giving the first set to Grayson County.

The second set was all Lady Cougars. Leading 6-3, junior Chloe Cox took the serve and rattled off nine straight points to make it 15-3. Cox served two aces in the run, while Robinson had three kills.

Kenzie Skaggs had a kill on the next Lady Aces serve and she took the serve with the Lady Cougars leading 16-4. Skaggs then served seven straight points, including two aces and the Lady Cougars held a commanding lead, 22-4.

Senior Alexis Hart took the serve leading 23-5, and Robinson had a kill to take it to set-point, 24-5, before Hart served an ace to give the second set to the Lady Cougars.

The third set was a back-and-forth affair, with first the Lady Aces leading, then the Lady Cougars leading, never more than a point or two apart.

It stayed that way until Robinson took the serve with her team in front by two points, 13-11. Robinson served an ace, then ran off five more points to give the Lady Cougars some separation at 19-11.

At match-point and with Cox serving, Robinson put away a kill to give the match to the Lady Cougars.

With the win, the Lady Cougars move to 14-11 on the year and will finish the season on Thursday at Daviess County.
