Boys drop scrimmage with A.C.S., 62-48

Playing in the final game of the T & T Construction Jamboree at the Cougar Den on Saturday, the Cougar boys took it on the chin from the Allen County-Scottsville Patriots, 62-48.

The score was tied one time, at 2-2 in the first period. The Patriots answered with six straight points to lead 8-2 at the 4:37 mark and they never trailed afterward. Allen County led by five, 14-9 at the end of the first quarter.

Allen County led by as many as 12 points in the second period, 28-16 with 2:40 left in the first half. They led by nine points, 32-23 at the half.

A three-pointer by the Patriots’ Mason Shilrley with 43 seconds left in the third quarter gave Allen County a 17-point lead, 51-34.

A 15-footer by Wyatt Coffee at the 3:35 mark gave the Patriots their largest lead of the game, 22 points at 60-38.

Grayson County then ran off 10 unanswered points to trail by just 12 points, 60-48 with 1:15 left to play.

The Patriots put three players into double figures, led by Shirley’s 21 points.

Keegan Sharp hit five three-pointers to lead the Cougars with 15 points. Senior Nolan Shartzer had 13 points and he added five rebounds and three assists. Sophomore Hunter Tomes had nine points and he led the team on the glass with nine rebounds.

Junior Jaxon Higdon hit a pair of threes for his six points. Junior Brett Payton had three points, while Chase Johnson had one to complete the scoring.
