The Louisville Metro Police Department announced Monday that an arrest has been made in a rape that occurred 38 years ago.
The department says that the assault happened in Louisville’s Portland neighborhood on January 24th, 1981. The 18-year-old victim did not know her assailant.
Officials say that at the time of the crime, the ability to test DNA against unknown suspects was not available which forced the case to go cold.
In September, the Kentucky State Laboratory received a match on a potential assailant as a part of the DANY Sexual Assault Kit Backlog Elimination Grant Program.
The investigation led authorities to arrest Ronald Priest, 62, of Louisville on November 15th.
Priest was charged with complicity rape, sodomy, and burglary. He is currently lodged in Louisville Metro Corrections on a $250,000 bond.
