In their second straight game against a 5th Region opponent, the Grayson County Cougars fell on the road on Monday evening at Nelson County by a final score of 64-46.

The Cougars got off to a fast start in leading by as much as seven points in the opening quarter. A run by the Cardinals brought the score to within 2 at 12-10 at the end of the first.

The second quarter, and the remainder of the game, was a different story. Gage Mattingly converted on two and-ones to help give Nelson a 27-23 lead at the end of the first half.

Out of the break, the Cardinals had a quick bucket for Mattingly, but the Cougars immediately had an answer with back to back baskets from Nolan Shartzer forcing a timeout from head coach Zach Allender.

Following the timeout, Nelson County went on a 15-2 run that put the game out of reach for Grayson County. The Cougars attempted to fight back multiple times in the fourth quarter but were never able to get the game to within less than 14 and the Cardinals pulled out a 64-46 win.

In the loss, senior Nolan Shartzer finished with 19 points with freshman Dillon Horn coming in with a career-high 8 points. Keegan Sharp and Chandler McCrady each had 7 points, Miles Hornbeck had 3 and Jaxon Higdon had 2.

The Cardinals were led by Bryce Riley who had 19 points with Gage Mattingly also finishing in double figures with 12.
