Breck manhandles Cougars, 67-46 in Cougar Den

The tall and talented Breckinridge County Tigers came into the Cougar Den on Saturday and laid a 67-46 whipping on the Cougars.

The Tigers put three players into double figures, led by senior Kaeveon Mitchell, who hit five-of-six threes and finished with a game-high 21 points.  Six-foot, six-inch senior Justin Shrewsberry scored 18 points, while senior guard Brock Lucas scored 17.

The Cougars led 5-2 at the 5:46 mark of the first period before the Tigers put together a 9-0 run to take the lead for good, 11-5 with 3:55 left in the period. They led by five, 17-12 heading into the second quarter.

Breck then opened the second period with a 14-2 run, including 11 straight, and led by 17 points, 31-14 with 4:02 left in the first half. They led by 18 points, 39-21 at the half.

Two Hunter Tomes free throws at the 5:00 mark of the fourth quarter brought the Cougars to within 11 points of the lead, 53-42, but the Tigers answered with seven straight to go back up by 18 and the Cougars were never closer than 16 points the rest of the way.

Sophomore guard Keegan Sharp hit four three-pointers and finished with a team-high 16 points. Senior Nolan Shartzer had seven points, while Miles Hornbeck had six.

Junior Chase Johnson scored five points, while Tomes finished with four. Four players, Dillon Horn, Chandler McCrady, Brayden Childress, and Nolan Hornbeck all scored two points to complete the Cougar scoring.
