A 12-0 Grayson County run in overtime at Hancock County propelled the Lady Cougars to a 69-62 victory over the Lady Hornets Thursday evening in Hawesville.

Though the Lady C9ougars led for most of the game, they needed a shot from junior Rachael Snyder with 10 seconds left to tie the game and send it into overtime.

The Lady Hornets then took a 59-57 lead with 2:55 left in the overtime on a shot just inside the arc by senior Kiera Duncan. Snyder fouled out of the game with 1:50 remaining, sending Duncan to the line for two shots that would have given the Hornets a four-point lead, but the senior missed both shots. That ignited the run that put the game away for the Lady Cougars.

Senior Bailey Snyder hit a short jumper in the lane with 1:33 left to tie the game 59-59. Snyder then stole the ball near the foul line and drove in for a lay-in that put the Lady Cougars in front to stay, 61-59 at the 1:25 mark.

Another Lady Cougar steal led to a missed shot by Snyder, but junior Ella Robinson was on the spot to grab the rebound and put it back to make it 63-59 with 1:12 remaining.

Robinson then blocked a shot at the other end, then took a pass from senior Kenzie Renfrow for a lay-in with 58 seconds left that made it 65-59. Renfrow followed that up with a steal and she was fouled as she drove to the basket. Her two free throws made it 10 in a row for a 67-59 lead.

Following a Hancock miss, Renfrow went to the line again in the bonus and hit both shots to make it 69-59 with 33 seconds remaining. In a minute and 17 seconds, the Lady Cougars had turned a two-point deficit into a 10-point lead.

Duncan buried a three-pointer with 23 seconds left to play for the final margin of eight points, and the Lady Cougars ran out the clock for the win.

The Lady Cougars held two-point leads at the end if the first, second and third periods before taking the game into overtime.

Freshman guard Bailey Poole led the Lady Hornets with 17 points, while seventh-grader Karmin Riley had 15. Duncan also reached double figures for the Lady Hornets with 12 points.

Renfrow led the Lady Cougars on the night with 27 points and she added eight rebounds, three assists and a team-high seven steals. Bailey Snyder finished with 14 points and she added four rebounds and two steals.

Rachael Snyder made it a double-double night with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Robinson just missed a double-double herself as she pulled down 10 rebounds to go along with her eight points.

Freshman Annie Kiper chipped in four points and seven rebounds, while Jenna Nash closed out the scoring with three points.

The JV squad led exactly one time in their game, 30-28 following a three-pointer by eighth-grader Sydney Perkins with 13 seconds left to play and they held off the hornets for the win.
