A Big Clifty man escaped injury after his truck burst into flames.

Wednesday night at approximately 7:30, the East Grayson Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire in the 600 block of Morrison Road. Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found an older model Toyota pickup truck, with a camper, just off the roadway and on fire.

The blaze began in the engine compartment as Sherman Gary was traveling on Morrison Road near his residence. Gary said he noticed smoke pouring out of the engine compartment and pulled the vehicle off the road before exiting the truck.

The fire moved quickly from the engine to the cab of the truck and into the camper, destroying the interior of both. East Grayson firefighters arrived on the scene in short order and extinguished the blaze within minutes.

Gary was uninjured.

Firefighters cleared the scene at about 8:30. Grayson County Deputy Sean Fentress assisted at the scene.
