Tigers run away from Cougars 57-39

The Breckinridge County Tigers outscored the Grayson County Cougars 30-17 in the second half last Friday in Harned, on their way to a 57-39 victory.

The Cougars (5-14) played well in the first half, staying with the powerful Tigers (13-4). The Cougars held a five-point lead, 9-4 with 2:50 left in the first period before the Tigers scored 11 unanswered points to lead 15-9 with 1:49 left, a lead they would not give back. Breck led by three, 15-12 heading into the second period.

A three-pointer by Keegan Sharp at the 4:30 mark pulled the Cougars to within a point of the lead, 20-19, but that would be as close as they would get. Breck led by five points, 27-22 at the half.

The Cougars trailed by three points, 29-26 with 6:04 remaining when the Tigers went on an 11-3 run to lead by 11 points, 40-29 with 1:14 left in the period. They led by nine, 40-31 at the start of the fourth quarter.

Sharp opened the fourth period with a three to pull the Cougars to within six of the lead, 40-34, but the Tigers responded with eight straight to lead by 14 points, 48-34 with 3:24 left and the Cougars were never closer than 12 points the rest of the way.

Tiger senior Kaeveon Mitchell led all scorers with 20 points. Justin Shrewsberry scored 12 points and Brock Lucas added 11.

Nolan Shartzer led the Cougars with 16 points and added nine rebounds. Sharp hit three three-pointers and finished with 13 points. Chandler McCrady and Dillon Horn both finished with four points, while River Blanton had two to complete the Cougar scoring. Hunter Tomes did not score in the game, but shared the team lead on the glass with nine rebounds.
