With very little discussion and no dissent, the “Born Alive” bill unanimously cleared the Kentucky Senate on Monday.

The sponsor, GOP Sen. Whitney Westerfield, R-Crofton, explained the purpose of the bill: “It simply requires that any child who is born alive, be it from an abortion attempt, or any other delivery of birth, Caesarian section, whatever, as long as the child is born alive, it requires the care of that baby like any human life.”

His bottom line: “We want to make sure that life is protected, not only in the womb but certainly when the baby is out of the womb.”

The bill passed 32-0 and now heads to the House.
