A contractor will soon begin work on the Western Kentucky Parkway/Hwy 231 interchange.

A Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said a contractor plans to begin work at the interchange (Beaver Dam exit 75) in Ohio County on Tuesday, February 18.

Cabinet officials said the project will replace the WK Parkway/U.S. 231 overpass and will include significant work zone traffic shifts. There will also be traffic restrictions on Hwy 231 at the interchange and for westbound traffic on the parkway.

The work zone will require all eastbound parkway traffic to take the exit ramp to the Hwy 231 intersection. Motorists who wish to continue eastbound on the parkway will have to re-enter the highway using the exit 75 entry ramp.

A temporary traffic signal will be in place. Message boards alerting motorists of the work zone will be in place, as well.

The initial round of work for the bridge rehabilitation project will replace the superstructure and deck of the parkway’s eastbound overpass. The contractor will use the existing support structure. Replacement of the main bridge structure will allow improved clearance for Hwy 231.

The project is expected to be completed by June.
