A teenager has been charged in Hardin County with exchanging nude photographs with a juvenile.

The Kentucky State Police Electronic Crime Branch arrested 19-year-old John Thomas Coffey Jr. on charges related to child sexual exploitation. He was arrested as the result of an undercover Internet Crimes Against Children investigation, according to state police.

The KSP Electronic Crime Branch began the investigation after discovering Coffey was communicating with a juvenile online, requesting they exchange nude photographs.

The investigation resulted in the execution of a search warrant at a residence in Fairdale on Wednesday. Equipment used to facilitate the crime was seized and taken to KSP’s forensic laboratory for examination.

Coffey was charged with two counts of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor, prohibited use of electronic means to procure a minor for sex, promoting a sexual act by a minor under 18, and distribution of obscene matter to a minor.

He was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center.
