A daytime burn ban is now in effect in Kentucky.

The Kentucky Division of Forestry (KDF), the entity that imposes the burn ban, says the ban is in effect as we head toward the Spring Forest Fire Hazard Season. The ban began on Saturday and runs through April 30. During the ban, burning is not permitted between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

The KDF says it’s illegal to burn flammable material capable of spreading fire located in or within 150 feet of any woodland or brushland.

Officials also remind people that if burning during allowable hours, the fires should be attended until they are extinguished.

The penalty for violating the burn ban is a maximum $500 fine.
