A Fordsville woman has been charged with attempted murder after shooting at her boyfriend.

According to Ohio County Sheriff Tracy Beatty, Tuesday morning at 7:45 deputies responded to a report of shots fired at 2521 Harmons Ferry Road, about six miles southeast of Utica.

Upon arriving at the scene, police learned that 28-year-old Kimberly Austin, of Fordsville, had shot a handgun at her boyfriend during a domestic dispute. Police said Austin also assaulted her boyfriend, causing a head injury.

Austin was located inside the residence where she was taken into custody, according to Beatty. She admitted to police she shot at her boyfriend and then tossed the gun into a field behind the residence, where authorities located the firearm.

Austin was arrested and charged with attempted murder (domestic violence), first-degree wanton endangerment, second-degree assault (domestic violence), and tampering with physical evidence. She was lodged in the Ohio County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond.

The victim was treated at the scene by Ohio County EMS and refused transport.

Kentucky State Police and the Hartford Police Department assisted at the scene.
