The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office has closed its office on the Leitchfield Public Square to protect the health of office staff.

Sheriff Norman Chaffins released a video update of steps his office is taking in response to the coronavirus pandemic. In the interest of protecting the health and safety of his office and other staff, he said the sheriff’s office has been closed.

Chaffins said no tax payments will be accepted until April 10 and no vehicle inspections will be performed until further notice. He noted that all calls to the sheriff’s office are being routed to Grayson County Central Dispatch, and if someone needs to pick up a report (collision report, etc), inform dispatch and an arrangement will be made.

Closing the office doors, though, does not translate to the sheriff’s office relaxing its responsibility to enforce the law.

The sheriff, in the video statement below, said, “We are still serving warrants; we are still patrolling our streets, we’re answering calls for service. As far as the deputies go, and the job that we do, we’re business as usual … We are still enforcing the law.”
