A candidate for a city commission seat in central Kentucky lit up a marijuana pipe during a live debate.

Frankfort City Commission candidate Tim Childers lit the pipe during the live video debate on June 1.

Childers is one of 12 Frankfort City Commission candidates. He was sitting in front of flag with a marijuana leaf as he lit the pipe.

According to media reports, Childers said, “Let’s go against the state and legalize something” as he held a lighter to his pipe. “Big money in that. Bunch of states doing it. I have the answers; candidate with solutions, people.”

Childers also announced, in a video comment posted to Facebook, that he was going to run for a state senate seat in two years. “Keep that seat warm for me people,” Childers said. “That’s my seat. I called dibs on that.”

The eight candidates with the most votes in the June 23 primary will move on to the 2020 General Election in November. The top four vote receivers in that election will be named Frankfort City Commissioners.
