Ohio County law enforcement officials are warning residents of a scam related to text messages.

Ohio County Sheriff Tracy Beatty said, “Numerous Ohio Countians are receiving text messages on their phones about a lost package or one that was found. These messages are part of an ongoing scam that has plagued many innocent victims.”

Beatty said if one clicks on the link provided in the message, one will be redirected to a website that will attempt to gather personal information.

Beatty recommends deleting the message and blocking the number from your phone. He also encourages anyone who receives such a text message to report it to the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office at 888-432-9257.

If anyone thinks their personal information has been compromised contact the Ohio Co. Sheriff’s Office at 270-298-4411, or if a Grayson County resident, contact the GC Sheriff’s Office at 270-259-3024.
