A Henry County man was recently arrested after volunteering to a deputy that he stole the Henry County Sheriff’s Office K-9 officer.

Brandon Harmon, 26, of Smithfield, told police he lured the dog from a fenced area with Vienna sausages.

He made the admission after he was caught by deputies trespassing on private property. According to a media reports, Harmon asked a deputy “to give him a ride up the street” so he could point out a recently stolen weed eater. Harmon, according to police, identified a weed eater but it wasn’t the equipment deputies were looking for.

Harmon then asked the deputy what happened to the stolen K-9, with the deputy asking Harmon how he knew about the missing police dog.

“I had something to do with it,” Harmon said, telling the deputy that he lured the dog with Vienna sausages.

He was arrested and charged with theft by unlawful taking and second-degree criminal trespassing and lodged in the Henry County Jail.

The missing K-9 officer has been found.
