A theft suspect from Clarkson has been arrested after fleeing the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office.

Friday night just before midnight, Grayson County Deputy Rick Mehlbauer and Sgt. Zane Greer were on patrol in Clarkson when Mehlbauer spotted a theft suspect, 26-year-old Erik T. Simcoe, driving a black Dodge Avenger on Old Leitchfield Road.

As Mehlbauer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Simcoe fled as Mehlbauer and Greer gave chase.

Simcoe eventually stopped in a driveway on Bruner Street, in Clarkson, where he was arrested and charged with fleeing or evading police, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, reckless driving, and driving on a suspended/revoked license along with other charges.

He is also facing receiving stolen property (under $10,000) and destruction of a VIN number charges related to the theft.

Simcoe was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
