Intoxicated Morgantown man drives into pond while fleeing police

An intoxicated Morgantown man has been arrested after driving into a pond while fleeing police.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office said that on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00, deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Hammett Hill Road and Morgantown Road. Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered the driver of the vehicle, 62-year-old Garry E. Yates, paid the landowner for a fence that he struck. Yates then left the scene.

Soon after, deputies received a report of vehicle driving recklessly on Kelly Harris Road, a few miles from the original accident scene. Deputies made contact with the vehicle on Kelly Harris Road, with Yates fleeing police before driving into a pond, according to police.

He was arrested and charged with DUI (aggravating circumstances), fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, and third-degree criminal mischief. He was lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail but has since been released.
