A drunk driver has been arrested after running a vehicle off the road before striking a utility pole on Peonia Road.

Friday afternoon at approximately 5:15, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Deputies Andy Vincent, Rick Melbauer , Sean Fentress and Sgt. Zane Greer ,along with the Anneta Fire Department, responded to the 6500 block of Peonia Road after a Kia Optima, being driven by 27-year-old Krysta Barker, of Munfordville, crossed the center line as the vehicle traveled up a hill, running a GMC Denali, being driven by 39-year-old Scott Kress, of Louisville, off the road.

Based on marks at the scene and witnesses, Kress was driving east on Peonia Road when he encountered the westbound Barker three to four feet inside the eastbound lane as she drove up a hill.

As Kress, who had his nine-year-old daughter with him, took evasive action to avoid a head-on collision, Barker’s vehicle clipped the GMC causing Kress to lose control. The truck entered a ditch line and traveled up an embankment where it came to a stop.

The Kia continued west, leaving yaw marks on the road for nearly 100 yards as the front driver’s side tire came off, causing the vehicle to get sideways and leave the road where it stuck a utility pole, breaking it in half.

Barker, who was uninjured, was given a field sobriety test and arrested. Her preliminary breath alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit, according to police

Neither Kress nor his daughter were injured in the accident.

Barker was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center where she was charged with two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, DUI, careless driving, and possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle.

She is no longer listed as an inmate.

Peonia Road was shut down until 10:15 Friday night as police worked the scene and the broken utility pole was replaced.
